OnlyFans has suspended a planned ban on sexually explicit content after widespread criticism from creators and sex workers who rely on the platform for income.
The company said the initial proposal to prohibit explicit material was prompted by concerns from banking partners and payout processors about regulatory and compliance risks.
Following discussions, OnlyFans secured assurances from financial service providers to continue supporting adult content, allowing the platform to maintain explicit material and protect creators’ revenue streams.
The decision preserves a direct monetization channel for many creators, including those in adult entertainment who expanded use of the site during the COVID-19 pandemic.
OnlyFans said it will strengthen partnerships with payment and banking partners to ensure secure, compliant operations while balancing regulatory requirements and the needs of its creator community.
