A Reuters investigation has raised serious concerns about nonconsensual content sharing on the adult subscription platform OnlyFans, citing more than 120 police complaints that include allegations of sexual assault and the distribution of explicit material without consent.
OnlyFans said it requires proof of identity and explicit consent from all creators as part of its verification process. The company said it removes unauthorized content, bans offending accounts and works with law enforcement to address violations.
Reuters reported that most complaints involved women whose explicit material was originally shared consensually but later redistributed across multiple platforms without permission, causing significant trauma.
OnlyFans said it uses monitoring systems to detect and act on violations quickly. The company described ongoing efforts to strengthen protections and prevent the spread of nonconsensual content.
The investigation highlighted the tension between enabling creative content sharing and safeguarding users’ rights and privacy. It prompted calls for online platforms to improve oversight and enforcement and for law enforcement to deepen collaboration with digital platforms, expand victim support services and raise awareness about consent and digital rights.
OnlyFans said it remains committed to refining safeguards to prioritize the dignity, safety and rights of creators and to fostering a more secure environment for sharing content.
