OnlyFans Fined £1 Million Over Inaccurate Information Responses

Ofcom has fined Fenix International Limited, the parent company of OnlyFans, £1.05 million for failing to provide accurate and complete information about its age assurance measures. The regulator said the shortcomings hindered its ability to assess whether the platform’s controls adequately prevented minors from accessing adult content.

Ofcom requested detailed disclosures from Fenix in June 2022 and again in June 2023 as part of its assessment of compliance with legal requirements to protect children online. The regulator found the company’s responses incomplete and inaccurate, amounting to a breach of its regulatory obligations and prompting the penalty.

The enforcement action comes amid heightened scrutiny of online platforms under the Online Safety Act and related UK laws, which give Ofcom expanded powers to investigate and fine companies that fail to meet safety and transparency obligations.

OnlyFans users and content creators can expect the platform to strengthen its age verification processes, adopt additional technological safeguards and increase regulatory transparency as a result of the ruling.

The fine underscores the importance of providing complete and truthful information to oversight bodies and signals that platforms hosting adult content must maintain robust compliance and clear communication with regulators.
