OnlyFans Has Over 120 Police Complaints About Non-Consensual Content Sharing: Report

A Reuters investigation has identified a pattern of nonconsensual content sharing on OnlyFans, based on more than 120 police complaints alleging explicit material was distributed without the consent of those depicted, including some allegations of rape. The inquiry reviewed documents from 56 law enforcement agencies and included interviews with victims and experts.

The investigation found that many women consented to creating explicit content but did not authorize its distribution on OnlyFans or other platforms. In multiple cases, material posted without consent was copied and circulated across other websites and social media, causing significant distress to alleged victims who say OnlyFans profited from the violations.

OnlyFans said it enforces strict policies against bad actors, including rapid removal of content, bans on offending accounts and cooperation with law enforcement. The company requires identity verification and explicit consent from all participants to prevent the upload and distribution of nonconsensual intimate images (NCII), and said its verification processes and swift actions aim to deter misuse.

Despite these measures, the case highlights the challenges digital platforms face in policing large volumes of content and countering increasingly sophisticated circumvention tactics. Legal experts noted the practical limits of moderation at scale, while victims’ advocates urged stronger regulation, proactive monitoring and improved reporting systems to better protect individuals from unauthorized image sharing.

The problem extends beyond OnlyFans to social media and other adult entertainment sites, prompting lawmakers and consumer rights groups to intensify calls for enhanced legal protections against nonconsensual content distribution. OnlyFans, launched in 2016, continues to position itself as a platform for creators to monetize content directly and has said it is investing in verification and consent processes as part of its trust and safety efforts.

The investigation underscores the importance of protecting privacy rights online and the responsibility platforms bear to prevent abuse. The findings have intensified public debate about digital consent, ethical content sharing and the measures needed to safeguard individuals’ dignity and safety in the digital age.
